Have you ever wanted to grade your own knitting or crochet patterns, but get hopelessly stuck on the tricky parts? You have a vision of the perfect sweater, but the numbers are just out of reach? Or you’re ok until you get to the extended sizes, then you’re stumped?

Announcing the new grading course by The Tech Editing Hub! Teaching the course will be Joeli Kelly, Sarah Walworth, Julie Robinson, and yours truly!

This is the course for you if you want to learn how to skillfully transform your sample project into an easy to understand pattern that all sizes and shapes can make and wear.

For my portion of this course, I’ll be demonstrating how I grade knit and crochet patterns. The crochet pullover I’ll be grading features extended sizing, a lovely cowl neck, and raglan seams. The knit cardigan is a bit trickier because it uses an all over stitch pattern, raglan seams, and top-down construction.

I personally got my start in grading by making alterations when sewing. Goodness knows I never fit into a store bought pattern, so alterations were definitely a must! When I designed a cardigan for my little boy, and then others asked for the pattern, I officially began grading my own knitwear. Having the background in sewing made the transition smooth! I polished up my skills in Jill Wolcott’s grading course, and then began to offer my skills to other designers.

The best part of grading, in my opinion, is seeing all of the finished garments fitting perfectly on the happy makers!
