Estonian Lace Cowl
Description
This lacy cowl is a fantastic way to try out Estonian lace knitting! The materials and time commitment are minimal, and the actual pattern is not too complicated. It is also a great pattern to try out beading. There are only 24 beads used in the whole cowl. This is a charted pattern, no written out instructions for the chart.
Finished Measurements:
pre-blocked 18”/45cm long and 6.5”/16cm wide
after blocking 22”/56cm long and 8.5”/22cm wide
Gauge: 8 sts pr 1”/2.54cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking. Please note that gauge is not extremely critical! Your final piece will be determined mainly by your blocking.
Materials Needed:
lace weight yarn, 250 yds/ 228.6 m
Tools Needed:
Size US 2/2.75mm, or size needles need to obtain gauge, straight or circular
5 buttons 5/8”/16mm You can use slightly smaller buttons, as long as they don’t slip back through the buttonholes.
Beads: 24 size 6/0 beads, or size of your choice. As long as you can thread them overtop a knit stitch, (or you can pre-string them if preferred), feel free to use any type of bead you like!
