You contact me and we discuss what type of pattern you are writing and what sizes you’d like me to grade. I can grade the whole pattern or just parts.
I do grade up to 70″ / 178cm size chest or bust. However, plus sizes do take longer since they are more challenging to grade the increases and decreases correctly.
I will need to see your pattern before I can give you a solid estimate (with rate cap). I charge $35 an hour, with a quarter hour minimum. Accessories usually take between 30 minutes to 3 hours; Garments between 1.5 to 5 hours.
I have a maximum of 2 weeks turnaround time. Most patterns will be ready much, much sooner. I can also do rush jobs!
Anything I don’t grade?
No brioche or entrelac! Those two are not my areas of expertise, but if you need someone to grade those, I’d be happy to ask my colleagues if they grade these patterns!
A single pattern that includes 12 sizes + loads of cables or lace charts + set-in sleeves + bust shaping + waist shaping, etc… Honestly, I don’t have enough time for those! I have time to grade up to 10 sizes at a time. If it is the most advanced sweater pattern on the planet, I’ll probably suggest that I find a colleague that does grading full time.
Also, I don’t write patterns for designers. I will make suggestions, and give you all the numbers you need, but the actual writing should be the work of the designer in order to keep their “voice”.
